The Author

Award-winning writer and editor Kris Ashton has published four novels and more than fifty short stories. His work has appeared in Aurealis, Midnight Echo, Andromeda Spaceways and many international titles, including Dark Moon Digest and The Fiction Desk.

He is also a noted essayist, taking out the Australian Shadows Award for non-fiction in 2023. His short stories feature in a scholarly work, Writing Speculative Fiction: Creative and Critical Approaches (Macmillan International), by academic and author Eugen Bacon.

Kris graduated from Western Sydney University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in creative writing and literature. He has had a 25-year career as a journalist and is currently editor of Open Road, one of the most widely-read magazines in Australia. He is active on social media, including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter/X.

In his spare time Kris enjoys reading, movies and television (he is a former film critic), playing squash and bodybuilding. His favourite authors include Stephen King, Keith Rosson, Ruth Park, L.M. Montgomery, John O’Grady, Henry Lawson, Mark Twain, M. L. Stedman, John Wyndham, Liane Moriarty, and John Steinbeck. He lives in the wilds of south-western Sydney with his wife, two children and a crippling mortgage.
